What is Counseling?

Counseling is a collaborative process in which a trained counselor offers support to individuals, couples, or groups as they navigate their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It creates a safe and confidential environment where people can openly share their struggles, find understanding, and gain valuable insights. The aim is to help them discover effective coping strategies and empower them to overcome personal, emotional, or psychological challenges.

Key aspects of counseling

  • Emotional Support – A counselor listens with empathy and without judgment.

  • Self-Exploration – Helps individuals understand themselves better.

  • Problem-Solving – Identifies challenges and finds ways to address them.

  • Behavioral Change – Encourages positive changes in thought patterns and behaviors.

  • Goal-Setting – Helps clients set realistic and meaningful goals.

  • Coping Strategies – Provides tools to manage stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, or other difficulties.

- Carl Jung

What is the difference between a psychological counselor, a psychotherapist & a psychiatrist?

In Switzerland, mental health professionals come from a range of training backgrounds. Understanding the distinctions between a counselor, psychotherapist, and psychiatrist can help you choose the right kind of support for your needs.

Psychological Counselor (Beratungspsycholog*in / Conseiller(ère) en psychologie)

In Switzerland, psychological counselors are typically master’s-level professionals in psychology or related fields. They offer short- to medium-term, goal-oriented support for issues like stress, relationships, and life transitions. While not federally regulated, many follow ethical codes established by associations like the FSP or SGfB. They do not diagnose or prescribe, and basic health insurance (LAMal) usually doesn't cover their services, though some private plans may.

Psychotherapist (Psychotherapeut*in / Psychothérapeute)

Psychotherapists provide in-depth, long-term treatment for mental health disorders usig specialized therapy methods. They are federally recognized, can diagnose and treat conditions, and are covered by LAMal with a doctor’s referral.

Psychiatrist (Psychiater*in / Psychiatre)

Psychiatrists are medical doctors specializing in mental health. They can diagnose, prescribe medication, and offer some therapy. Their services are fully covered by LAMal.

Integrative Therapy

Healing the Mind, Body and Emotions

Integrative therapy offers a compassionate and personalized approach to healing, blending techniques from various therapeutic models to meet each individual’s unique needs. Sometimes referred to as holistic therapy, it recognizes the deep connection between our mental, emotional, and physical well-being.

In a safe and supportive space, you and I will work together to explore the roots of concerns such as anxiety, depression, stress, low self-esteem, grief, identity questions, life transitions, burnout, or relationship difficulties. This approach is particularly well-suited for those who want to actively participate in their healing and value a collaborative, respectful therapeutic relationship.

Integrative therapy provides a nurturing environment where one's voice is heard, one's experiences are honored, and one's personal journey is met with empathy and care.

Counseling Support

Counseling support is a space where you can talk openly about what’s on your mind. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, going through a big change, or just need someone to talk to, a counselor is there to listen and help you find ways to feel better. You don't need to feel alone.

Cognitive Based Therapy (CBT)

CBT is a therapy that helps you understand the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and actions. It focuses on changing unhelpful thoughts that can lead to difficult emotions or behaviors. In therapy, we’ll explore your thought patterns and how small changes can improve your coping and responses. CBT is practical and goal-oriented and provides tools for everyday life.

Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT)

EFT helps you understand and work through your emotions like sadness, anger, or fear, which can sometimes feel overwhelming. By examining what your emotions reveal about past experiences or current struggles, you can feel more in control and connected to yourself.

Person-Centered Therapy

Person-Centered Therapy is a type of psychotherapy developed by Carl Rogers that focuses on the individual and their unique experiences, and not the problem. It is based on the idea that everyone is capable of growth and self-understanding and that each person is the ultimate expert on themselves.

About Me

As a psychological counselor and someone who identifies as a third-culture kid, I bring personal and professional insight into the emotional and psychological landscapes of people navigating diverse life experiences. Born in South Africa to Polish parents, I spent my formative years in the USA, Taiwan, and Singapore. For the past 20 years, I’ve made my home in Geneva with my husband, my two children, and our German Shepherd dogs.

Having lived in different countries as a child, spouse, parent, and professional, and finally settling in Switzerland, I have developed a deep appreciation for the complexities of change— cultural, relational, or internal. I recognize the complex nature of transitions and their impact on an individual’s sense of identity, belonging, and well-being. This understanding enables me to support adults from diverse backgrounds who face personal, emotional, or psychological challenges.

"In an ocean of empathy,

there are islands of work."

- Les Greenberg

Sessions can be in person

or online from anywhere in Switzerland

At the core of my work is a genuine curiosity about people—their stories, challenges, strengths, and the meaning they find in their experiences. I am dedicated to creating a warm, respectful, safe, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel seen and heard.

I offer individual counseling in both English and French, using an integrative therapeutic approach. I draw from various evidence-based therapies to customize the work to each client’s unique needs and preferences.

No single symptom or situation defines a person—we are all complex, multifaceted, and capable of growth.
